One Week Since the Start of the Preliminary Rounds of Competition
Exactly one week ago, the Spicemas Corporation officially kicked off the 2026 musical competition season with the highly anticipated Power Soca Monarch Preliminary Competition. What unfolded over four vibrant evenings was a remarkable display of Grenadian talent mixed with the unmistakable community energy that defines Spicemas. Hosted across four venues (the Tanteen Netball Court, La Sagesse Hard Court, Sauteurs Bus Terminal, and Cuthbert Peter’s Park) the preliminary rounds attracted enthusiastic crowds whose excitement and support rivalled that of our Soca Monarch Finals.
More than 100 talented artistes took to the stage throughout the preliminary competition, each delivering performances that showcased exceptional entertainment, creativity, musicality, and passion. From powerful vocals to captivating stage presence, every performance reflected the months of preparation and dedication invested by our local talent. Following four unforgettable nights of competition, 31 artistes have earned their place in the Power Soca Monarch Semifinals. Congratulations to General PP, Shortpree, Donkey, Bubbah 473, Thugg, Daddy Ranks, Terra D Governor, Tris, Mushman, Shamak, Angeboy, Lil Jelo, Akym, Mello, Soca ET, Randy Isaac, Super Flying Flint, Cryave, Shatta Deegz, Lil Kerry, Luni Spark & Electrify, Shequan, Baby L, Boogie D Curry Boss, XO King Dre, Snakey, Mr. Legz, Mansly, Happy Boy, Moses Ranks, and Killa B. These artistes now move one step closer to the coveted Power Soca Monarch title.
While only a select number could advance, every competitor contributed to an unforgettable start
of the competition season and demonstrated the depth of talent that continues to thrive within the
Grenadian music industry. The Spicemas Corporation commends every young man and woman who stepped onto the stage to share not just their music but their stories and passions for our cultural identities. Performing before a live audience is no small feat, and each artiste deserves recognition for the courage and hard work displayed throughout the competition. To every artiste who participated, we extend our sincere appreciation for delivering an outstanding show. Your performances entertained audiences across the island and reminded us why Grenadian music continues to grow with every passing year.
As one chapter of the competition season closes, another begins. Tonight, Thursday 9th July 2026, the spotlight shifts to the Groovy Soca Monarch Prelims, where another talented group of artistes will begin their journey to the Groovy Soca Monarch crown. The Groovy Preliminaries will take place over four exciting nights, beginning tonight at 7:00 p.m. on the La Sagesse Hard Court. The Spicemas Corporation invites the public to come out to this free event and support our artistes as they deliver the infectious rhythms backed by the captivating performances that have made Groovy Soca one of the highlights of the Carnival season.
The road to the crown continues, and the best is yet to come.
